Settle in.

Close your eyes.

Wait. No. You can’t do that.

But, yeah, picture Sophia Petrillo’s storytelling.

“Picture it: Positano, 2047. Verso La Luce opened it doors with an espresso and wine party. Espresso for the early risers, wine for the late night crowd. And there with a beaming smile because a vision baked under the California sunshine has become a reality in the cool air coming off the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Verso La Luce is a quaint shop. Not more than 30 feet long and 20 feet wide. But it’s perfect. It houses English and Italian titles; some famous and some local. Off on the left right as you enter is Richard. He’s the “host” of the store, but he’s likely either writing something in his notebook or reading one of the new books to hit the shelves. And depending on the time of day, he’s either got an espresso or a glass of wine.

Against the wall a bit further into the store is the spinning vinyl. On this night, it’s playing an America folk band on he’s heard of.

That’s where we leave him. To drink his wine, listen to his music, surrounded by books and curious people.”

That’s why we are here.

This is a journey together.

In launching Verso La Luce, I want to learn together. I want to question and challenge. I want to get angry at a story and cry when we discuss our latest read.

There is more to come about what this space will be. But for now, we have this. A safe space of inclusion, love, and hope.

Thanks for joining.

-Richard
